Critical Incident Recovery Resources, Inc.
Director

 

I provide trauma recovery services, training programs, and peer support workshops.
Professional Activities include:

1) Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR):

As Senior Faculty of the EMDR Institute, I provide the Level 1, Level 2, and advanced EMDR workshop. I have taught EMDR workshops across the United States, in Australia, Denmark, England, Finland, France, Kenya, Kuwait, the Netherlands, Northern Ireland, Isreal, Norway, Sweden, Scotland, Turkey, and the Ukraine. 

2) United States Federal Bureau of Investigation

I have consulted with the FBI since 1982. I have provided training to the FBI's Advanced Peer Support Team, EAP,the National Academy, and the Hostage Rescue Team. I provide psychological services to agents after critical incidents and participate in the Post Critical Incident Seminar.

3) U. S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms

Since 1988 I have trained ATF's critical incident peer support team, provided ongoing workshops to train new members and provided program supervision. I have provided debriefings and follow-up services after major critical incidents. I provided on site services immediately following the Waco raid (2/28/93) and have continued to provide services to agents involved in the raid, family members, and survivors of agents killed in the raid.

4) Department of Justice

I have consulted with EAP program in providing services to personnel affected by the Oklahoma City bombing and training the critical incident team.

5) The Trauma Center (Boston, MA)

I am a Lead Instructor of the Community Services Program, which provides crisis intervention, clinical services, and education programs to the Boston School District and the community.

6) International Critical Incident Stress Foundation

I am on the core faculty of ICISF and am the instructor for a two day course entitled "Traumatic Stress Management: Advanced Peer Support Strategies", and also teach the basic courses on Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) and Peer Counseling Techniques. I also provide a CISM workshop for mental health professionals.

7) Railroad Consultation

I have been consulting with Via Rail Canada since 4/95 to train critical incident peer support teams and provide services following critical incidents. I provide similar training to Alaska Railroad. From 1989 to 1993, I consulted with Union Pacific Railroad's critical incident peer support program providing training and services to over 1000 railroad personnel involved in traumatic incidents.

8) MEDCAN (Toronto, Canada)

I provide consultation to this occupational health care's trauma program, providing treatment to personnel on trauma related disability, provide training in critical incident stress management, and consultation to management and nursing staff on psychological issues.

9) Critical Incident/Post-Shooting Trauma

I have consulted with numerous municipal, county, state, and federal agencies on critical incident programs, and have provided psychological services after traumatic incidents. I have presented numerous workshops and seminars nationally on critical incident trauma as well as other topics related to police stress and police psychology. I have taught seminars to law enforcement and mental health professional audiences in Australia, Canada, Kuwait, the Netherlands, Norway and Sweden. In the private sector, I have provided critical incident debriefings after major incidents (e.g. airline crashes, major crimes, disasters). I serve as an expert witness in civil suits and criminal trials in cases involving law enforcement use of deadly force.

10) On Site Academy

From 7/1/94 until 6/30/98 I served as the Program Director of thie On-Site Academy, a non-profit residential and outpatient treatment and training center that focuses on emergency service personnel suffering from critical incident stress and PTSD.

11) Private Practice

I have a small private practice where I specialize in the treatment of post traumatic stress disorder and grief.

Duties: Provide psychological services (individual, marital, and family psychotherapy) to department personnel and their dependents.

Conduct psychological screening of law enforcement applicants; and for selection of SWAT team, bomb squad, and hostage negotiators.

Organize, coordinate, and supervise prevention programs, (e.g. peer support/critical incident program, alcohol awareness program, commissioned women group.)

Conduct training at the inservice and academy levels on psychological issues (e.g. stress management, critical incident trauma, mental conditioning, dealing with the mentally ill, communication skills, supervision, dealing with the problem employee, interrogation).

Provide organizational and program consultation to all bureaus in the department, conduct research, and provide operational assistance.

Police Psychologist (full time contract)

 

Duties: Provide psychological services (individual, marital, and family psychotherapy) to police personnel and family membefs. Organize, coordinate, and supervise prevention programs including peer support and family programs. Provide organizational and program consultation with all sections of the department.

Conduct  psychological screening of applicants for SWAT, vice squad, narcotics squad, bomb squad, and police reserves. Conduct training at the academy and in-service levels in areas pertinent to psychology.
